Ephraim PI, a junior at Rye High School, was sniffling and coughing so much that his mother let him skip school. He was not, however, allowed to miss his SAT prep class that evening. It was the final review for the verbal section. But in the haze of his illness, 16-year-old Ephraim brought his math review book by mistake.

Geary Danihy, the Princeton Review teacher, tried to engage the boy. ”Ephraim?” he asked, ”when it comes to sentence completion, what is the first thing you are not going to do?”

”You’re not going to look at the answers,” Ephraim croaked.
