CHAPPAQUA, N.Y.
THE parenting insights of Kate Stone Lombardi, of Chappaqua, differ significantly from those of Dan Zevin, of Larchmont.
For instance, while Ms. Lombardi encourages mothers to reconsider the popular concept of withholding affection toward their growing sons, Mr. Zevin has learned to live with opening a bag of Pirate’s Booty for his children’s breakfast, and is not above occupying them with a DVD during any road trip lasting longer than 60 seconds.
Ms. Lombardi’s book, “The Mama’s Boy Myth: Why Keeping Our Sons Close Makes Them Stronger” (Avery), released in March, explores what she discovered during three years of research into “the only stigmatized parent-child relationship” — that between mothers and sons — she said during an interview at the Chappaqua Library last month.
